Humanistic Approaches
Humanistic psychotherapy is a type of therapy based on humanistic psychology. It is patient-centered and recognizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as meaningful in creating conditions for the person’s growth. It is a holistic approach and works directly with the individual’s experience as a reference point for setting the goals and agenda of therapy. Humanistic psychotherapy enables the patient to gain a stronger self-concept and learn ways of actively participating in their own psychological growth and development.
The process of humanistic therapy encourages a self-awareness and mindfulness that allows people to change from a pattern of reactionary behaviors into a more productive practice of self-awareness and healthier behaviors. In humanistic therapy, patients are treated with empathy, genuineness, and positive regard.
